Nothing new in that, except that this village is quite old and is white and has various nationalities living in it. This village is Torrox in Andalucia, Spain. This is where I have lived since 1992. We live in a cul-de-sac off one of the oldest streets in the village and our house dates back in parts to Moorish times. I am off now for a walk.

I think it is just the best place to live, not too far from the coast, surrounded by hills and mountains and, I feel, very magical especially during the hours of darkness when I feel that the Moors retake the village saying 'You can make it as cosmopolitan as you wish during daylight hours, but come the dark, it is ours'. It is a place where I have never been afraid to go walking through the village, sometimes at 1 or 2pm when I have people to meet who are coming on holiday, and that is something I wouldn't dare to do when I am in the UK.

It sounds just right for you. Here, where I live, a remote little place there is still a similar environment. Kids can play out, they can walk to and from each others homes, if I choose, I can go walking too. It is a peaceful environment but it is one where I would like to escape to, have holidays in - longish ones - but not live in as I do, 100% of the time.
These things are all individual and subjective and the quality of life is in part, what you make it.

Haven't looked at my blogs for MONTHS! So have only just picked up your comments about whether or not I am going to write more blogs. It is very hot and very windy here today, a good drying day! I have been catching up with my work as a photographer and also becoming a freelance writer, so busy, busy. I have started walking again as well, with my next door neighbour who is Danish, we were out about an hour and a half yesterday brisk walking in the sourrounding countryside. We are surrounded by hills. mountains and 3K to the sea.

Oh, you're in Spain! I'd love to visit there. I was happily married for 24 years to a man who disliked travel. As I spent most of my time doing what I loved best -writing & riding - I thought it only fair that he spent his holidays doing what he wanted - consequently, we never travelled. But if I ever get my true balance back, off I shall go.

It sounds delightfully historic. I have been reading a faction account of the life of the infanta Caterina D'Aragona. The character recounts much of her life in Sapin with her parents and their campaigns. There are wonderful descriptions of the Alhambra and little of the cultured Moorish way of life. One of these days I will pick up the book and finish it.
It is one of those books which, you know the history and think you know how it will proceed from a certain point. If the truth be told, the last time I looked at it, it did not process in quite the way I expected it to and yet...
